The following is a very common occurrence in those seeking the help of a trainer when trying to get back in shape...
Alex: So, tell me why it is you want to begin training.
Trainee: Well, I have just been to the doctors for my annual check-up and I have been told that I have high blood pressure, high triglycerides, I am at 28 on the BMI and I am at great risk of Type 2 Diabetes. I considered myself pretty fit and healthy for my age, and all this was a bit of a shock.
Alex: I see. So when was the last time you did any form of structured exercise?
Trainee: Erm, I used to swim twice a week.
Alex: Oh ok, and how long ago did this stop?
Trainee: Oh, around five years ago I think.
Alex: Ah.
In our day and age people only take action when faced with a serious problem. I always find it quite sad how little time and effort people make in taking care of their own health and well being. People no longer set aside time in their day, or even in their week to get some exercise, stretch or even de-stress! Making time for yourself ensures that not only you live a long and happy life, but so do the people around you and those that depend on you. If you ensure that you are happy and healthy as a mother, father, partner or friend you will not only set a great example for those near to you but ensure that the fatigue, stress and illness that are present in all our lives do not affect you or those close to you.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! If you want to make sure you stay free from stress, free from illness, free from fatigue and of course free from weight-gain, don't wait until the last minute. Start now.
