Xander Conditioning recommends - "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes

The nature of my work means that addressing issues in people's diet is a day to day task. Often the hardest part of this task is convincing people of the myths surrounding modern nutrition and what exactly constitutes "healthy" and "unhealthy" food. The subject of nutrition has become warped and confusing through misleading information about the latest health craze or piece of government information about saturated fats or red meat. Remember when everyone was told; don't eat eggs, they are high in cholesterol and could give you a heart attack! Now, we are told eating two eggs per day will aid your weight-loss and is government recommended... What's going on??
Surely the nutrition people in the Daily Mail, or government "experts" would research all this stuff before they decide to publish it wouldn't they? After all, the result of feeding people the wrong information could have major health implications. If the government has all their facts straight, and they are giving out such great advice, why isn't it working? Why is obesity, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's and most other degenerative disease on a constant increase?
Gary Taubes' book is a must have for those who wish to further their understanding of how nutrition works and find out how all this dietary controversy started. Having read the book from cover to cover, I believe Gary is one of the few mainstream writers who has published the whole scientific truth regarding nutritional research and its implications. The book is a very detailed account of the research over the last hundred years and shows many cases of the affects of the modern low-fat "heart-healthy" diet.
