Why is magnesium important?

Magnesium is one of the most vital minerals in the human diet and is involved in around 325 reactions regularly taking place inside the body. Some of the functions of elemental magnesium include glucose metabolism, balancing calcium status and the relaxation of soft tissue structures throughout the body.

What are the dangers of a lack of magnesium?
A lack of magnesium in your diet can have significant consequences. A deficiency has been linked to osteoporosis, heart attack, stroke, kidney stones, poor sleep quality, low sex drive, inability to lose body fat... Do you need any other reasons?

How much magnesium do you need?
There is no Upper Limit defined for magnesium supplementation as no study has ever established a toxic dose. It appears that you basically can not have too much of this essential nutrient. It is advised for the average person supplementing between 6-10 mg per kg of body weight is optimal. For athletes, the requirements may be far greater due to magnesium wasting during exercise and the benefit magnesium has on gains in lean mass and strength development. Magnesium supplementation is also increased during pregnancy as a deficiency is related to various birth defects and an increased risk of SID (sudden infant death syndrome).

Supplementing extra magnesium is a must for anyone who seeks a higher standard of health!
