Metabolic Syndrome is just one of many conditions that is plaguing the population of the Western world and is a result of poor dietary choices and inactivity. Characteristics of Metabolic Syndrome (or Syndrome-X) include wasting of the musculature of the limbs and excess fat storage around the abdomen. There are 5 risk factors for metabolic syndrome...
1. Overweight (BMI > 25, or a waistline > 40 inches in males and > 35 inches in females)
2. Hypertension (high blood pressure)
3. Elevated triglycerides
4. Low-HDL cholesterol
5. High fasting blood sugar, high fasting insulin levels ("pre-diabetic")
Metabolic syndrome is a serious condition that must be addressed as soon as its presence becomes apparent. Anyone with three or more of the symptoms listed above is considered to have Metabolic Syndrome, and each of these symptoms is itself a risk factor for other diseases. In combination, these symptoms dramatically increase the risk of heart attack, diabetes and stroke.
If you are at risk of Metabolic Syndrome you should do something about it immediately. For further information, contact us at enquiries@xanderconditioning.co.uk.
